Extended National Consumer Price Index 15
Brazil IPCA-15 is an early monthly reading of consumer price inflation in Brazil. It tracks how prices paid by households change during a mid-month collection window rather than the full calendar month.
Full explanation
The IPCA-15 is produced by IBGE under Brazil's National System of Consumer Price Indexes. It uses broadly the same concept as the headline IPCA, but prices are generally collected from around the 16th of the previous month to the 15th of the reference month. The MoM version reports the change from the prior IPCA-15 period, while the YoY version compares the index with the same period a year earlier.
Why traders watch it
Traders watch it as a timely signal for Brazilian inflation, central-bank policy expectations and BRL rates pricing.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
A stronger-than-expected reading may suggest firmer inflation pressure and could support expectations for tighter monetary policy. A weaker-than-expected reading may point to easing price pressure, although market reaction depends on the broader inflation and policy backdrop.
