Japan Current Survey on Orders Received for Construction: Big 50 Constructors, year-on-year change
This reports how the value of new construction orders received by major Japanese construction companies changed from the same month a year earlier. It gives a quick view of demand for building and infrastructure work.
Full explanation
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism publishes the Current Survey on Orders Received for Construction, including the “Big 50 Constructors” report. The series covers contract orders received by 50 large construction firms and breaks activity down by public and private orders and other categories. The YoY figure is the percentage change in nominal order value versus the same month of the previous year.
Why traders watch it
Construction orders can signal future construction activity, investment demand and cyclical momentum in Japan, which may affect JPY rates expectations and broader risk sentiment.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
A stronger-than-expected reading may suggest firmer investment and construction demand. A weaker-than-expected reading may point to softer project pipelines or delayed capital spending.
