Kuwait Broad Money Supply M2 Year-over-Year
Kuwait M2 Money Supply YoY measures how much broad money in Kuwait has changed compared with a year earlier. It captures money readily available in the economy, including narrow money and quasi-money.
Full explanation
The Central Bank of Kuwait defines M2 as M1 plus quasi-money. M1 includes currency outside local banks and sight deposits in Kuwaiti dinars, while quasi-money includes savings deposits, time deposits, foreign-currency deposits and certain certificates of deposit. The year-over-year calendar reading expresses the annual growth rate of this broad money aggregate.
Why traders watch it
Traders watch M2 growth because it can signal liquidity conditions, credit-cycle momentum and potential medium-term inflation pressure. It may also inform expectations for Kuwaiti monetary conditions and the dinar’s managed exchange-rate environment.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
Faster-than-expected M2 growth may suggest easier liquidity or stronger deposit and credit creation. Slower growth may suggest tighter liquidity or weaker money creation, though policy implications depend on inflation, credit demand and fiscal flows.
