Treasury notes are marketable U.S. government securities with maturities longer than bills and shorter than most bonds. The 7-year note is auctioned monthly, and results can include the high yield, coupon, bid-to-cover ratio and participation by different bidder groups. It should not be merged with other Treasury auction maturities.
Why traders watch it
The auction gives a live read on demand for intermediate-term U.S. government debt, which can influence Treasury yields, rate expectations and USD-sensitive assets.
