Estonia retail trade enterprises turnover volume index change
This measures changes in the inflation-adjusted volume of sales by retail trade enterprises in Estonia. It shows whether households and other shoppers are buying more or fewer goods in real terms.
Overview
Statistics Estonia publishes monthly changes in the turnover volume index of retail trade enterprises. The index is based on trade-enterprise turnover data adjusted for price changes, with comparisons available against the previous period and the same period a year earlier. The MoM version compares with the previous month, while the YoY version compares with the same month of the previous year.
Why traders watch it
Retail sales are a timely signal of domestic demand and consumer strength, which can influence euro-area growth views and local bond or equity sentiment.
How to interpret the result
A stronger-than-expected reading may indicate firmer consumer spending and better real demand. A weaker-than-expected reading may suggest pressure on household purchasing power or softer domestic activity.
