France Registered Jobseekers Total
This measures the number of people registered with France Travail as jobseekers. It is a stock measure, not a count of new layoffs in a single month.
Overview
The series comes from the official France Travail-Dares labour-market statistics, which classify registered jobseekers by administrative categories. Calendar providers often focus on the headline total for registered jobseekers, commonly category A or a related nationally published jobseeker stock depending on the vendor’s convention. It differs from the ILO unemployment rate, which is survey-based.
Why traders watch it
Traders watch it as a timely signal of French labour-market slack, which can affect expectations for euro-area growth, fiscal pressure and ECB policy discussions.
How to interpret the result
A higher-than-expected total may suggest a weaker labour market. A lower-than-expected total may suggest firmer employment conditions.
