Philippines Goods Exports Year-over-Year
Philippines Exports YoY measures how the value of goods exported by the Philippines changed compared with the same month a year earlier. It is usually shown as a percentage increase or decrease.
Overview
The series is part of the Philippine Statistics Authority's International Merchandise Trade Statistics. It is based on goods leaving the country that are properly cleared through customs, including domestic exports and re-exports, and excludes services exports.
Why traders watch it
Exports are an important signal for external demand, manufacturing activity and foreign-currency earnings. Stronger-than-expected export growth may support views of better growth or external balances, while weaker growth may weigh on sentiment toward PHP, depending on import trends and global risk conditions.
How to interpret the result
A higher-than-expected YoY rate suggests export sales grew faster, or contracted less, than forecast versus the same month a year earlier. Market reactions depend on base effects, commodity and electronics shipments, revisions, import data and the wider trade-balance picture.
