Philippines Producer Price Index for Manufacturing, year-on-year change
Philippines PPI YoY measures how prices charged by domestic manufacturers changed compared with the same month a year earlier. It is an early gauge of price pressure before goods reach consumers.
Overview
The Philippine Statistics Authority's Producer Price Survey collects monthly factory-gate prices for selected manufactured products from sample establishments. The PPI for Manufacturing is compiled on a 2018 base and uses a chained Paasche-type index covering formal manufacturing establishments and industry divisions under the Philippine classification system.
Why traders watch it
Producer prices can feed into consumer inflation, corporate margins, and central-bank inflation assessments, making the release relevant for PHP and local rates.
How to interpret the result
A higher-than-expected PPI increase may point to stronger upstream inflation pressure, while a weaker reading may suggest easing cost pressure. The market impact depends on whether the move is broad-based and whether it is likely to pass through to consumer prices.
